Where Steel Failed Is Here
Where Steel Failed, Book One of The Old Hunger, is out today, November 1, 2026.
It begins at the head of a windswept valley, at the half-open doors of a monastery, where an old monk calls a band of weary soldiers in out of the wind. Seraph is one of them, a young Guardian of the Realm sent to retrieve a rusted sword the Palace cannot even name, and far too quick to argue with an order. Within those walls he will watch a single man tear through his companions.
What follows is the road I wanted to walk with him. A secret warrior order that takes him in. Teachers who can fade from sight. Powers he never knew existed, beginning to answer him. A hunt that draws him, with Miriam and Reidell, into a war between kingdoms. Every lesson hurts. His old life taught him only whom to obey; this new one asks him to decide whom to trust.
I wanted wonder close at hand, because the world keeps holding beauty even when pain has narrowed everything we see: a red sunrise over the snow that makes even a war feel small for the space of a breath.
Where Steel Failed is adult epic fantasy; the content note covers graphic violence, including torture. It is also a story about the people who give Seraph reasons to care about more than vengeance.
It’s available on Kindle, including Kindle Unlimited (now Kindle+), and in paperback and hardcover. The saga continues in What Wrath Requires on January 7, 2027.
And if you walk this road with Seraph, I’d love to hear where it found you.
